Telepharmacy Solutions customers have a variety of telecommunications options from which to choose to enable real-time, face-to-face videoconferencing between outpatients at a medical clinic, or other outpatient facility, and the central, ADDS-controlling pharmacy: high capacity, high speed ISDN telephone lines; regular telephone lines (POTS); or a network. The best choice depends on each customer's preference and what technology is available.
The first factor to consider in making your choice, assuming you are not on a common network, is what type of phone line service is available between the point-of-care, where the Telepharmacy Solutions outpatient system will be installed, and the controlling pharmacy. Standard telephone service (POTS) is almost always available, even on short notice, whereas ISDN service is not ubiquitous and can take longer to implement.
The second factor to consider is the type of video performance you desire. When compared to standard telephone lines, ISDN lines provide greater performance in terms of speed and other capabilities.
The third factor to consider is cost. While the price of quality televideo is falling, POTS lines are less expensive than ISDN to install and operate.
Fourth, what level of video performance do you require? We recommend you consider one of the many options commercially available to you. The listed descriptions were provided by the manufacturers, and each has been successfully implemented by at least one ADDS customer.
Telepharmacy Solutions offers video teleconferencing that enables "face-to-face" communications between a pharmacist and a patient or medical professional. A growing number of customers are implementing this option because it enhances the dialogue between care giver and patient.
