HIGH-CAPACITY TELEPHARMACY SOLUTIONS 8.0 NOW AVAILABLE FROM AMERISOURCEBERGEN’S TECHNOLOGY GROUP

Remote Pharmacy Services Are Safely Taken To Patients in Retail, Veterans and Indian Healthcare Facilities

VALLEY FORGE, PA, October 10, 2004 – The AmerisourceBergen Technology Group (ABC: NYSE) today announced the launch of Telepharmacy Solutions 8.0 System, a fully configurable system that allows pharmacies servicing community health centers, retail, veterans affairs and Indian healthcare to extend their pharmaceutical services to multiple points of care. The Telepharmacy Solutions 8.0, part of AmerisourceBergen’s Technology Group, can dispense virtually any size bottle or unit-of-use package controlled by an off-site pharmacist, where approved by state boards of pharmacy. Currently there are 15 states which either have active pilots, a live site or approved telepharmacy regulations. Additionally there are 20 states where the state boards are either actively investigating or currently working on regulations. The 8.0 System can also provide patients with real-time pharmacist counseling via a telecommunications link, which can include both voice and video transmission.

Telepharmacy Solutions 8.0 System integrates remote or local dispensing system cabinetry and software, pharmacy software and televideo technology into one system. It allows pharmacies to reach more patients in more healthcare locations, and to handle increased prescription volumes without adding staff. The Telepharmacy Solutions System is available for one-tenth of the cost of building, staffing and opening a new pharmacy. The system also features multiple verification check points, including barcodes and lot number and expiration date confirmation, to virtually eliminate dispensing errors.

Under a pharmacist’s control, the 8.0 System also dispenses single units of up to 80 medications in non-uniform, unit-of-use packaging. The narcotic-secure system houses eight medication trays, each with up to 10 rows of spiral helixes and is configurable to store five to 30 units per medication.

The system is ideal for dispensing pre-packaged oral solid tablets and capsules, pediatric suspensions, oral contraceptives, inhalers, small IV bags, ophthalmics, topicals and other non-uniformly packaged unit-of-use medications.
